I had read reviews regarding the Emile Henry Bread Box and my search began to find the color that I desired. That search lead me to Atlanta Grill Company. I found exactly what I wanted, excellent price, easy purchase and it shipped immediately. It was in perfect condition as it was well packaged.
About the bread box - it keeps loaves such as Italian or French breads with crispy exterior and soft interior exactly that way. It does exactly what I was looking for and so far I have managed to hold a loaf of home made Italian bread for 4 days and it is almost as if I had just baked it. I have tried just about everything else I could think of to try to hold my home made bread longer than a three or four days without mold or going stale. This is the answer to my search. It has a cutting guide on the interior of the lid for those that desire a guide, I prefer to not use it because I don't want to risk dulling my bread knife.
The one thing that others have mentioned in reviews is the fact that the bottom of the bread box is uneven and tends to rock on the counter top. Mine does the same thing and from what I can tell it is to allow the air circulation hole in the bottom the best possible position for ventilation. The rock is subtle and honestly doesn't bother me.
It is a large piece of ceramic (about 14" long and 5 to 6" tall, so if you are short on space that could be a factor for you. If space isn't an issue and you are looking for a good storage solution to keep bread longer than a few days and want something that is aesthetically pleasing - this is your answer. I am thrilled with my bread box.
