This is the second deep storage bowl I have purchased. The first one was for myself (Truffle) and the second one was a gift for a friend (Clay). The photo is deceptive as this bowl looks small, it is anything but. I have limited counter space or I would have purchased the larger bowl as well. The deep bowl is better suited for storing more potatoes & onions in the base of the bowl and ensuring the cork lid will be able to close properly. The cork top fits a large hand of bananas or a few pieces of fruit. The large bowl stores fewer potatoes & onions in the bowl & more fruit on top. Your needs will dictate the size to purchase. These bowls are beautiful and well made as are all Emile Henry products. I also purchased the matching garlic storage pot & the small storage pot for salt, sugar, spices, & herbs which I use for storing sea salt. I frequently make Focaccia & this is quite handy for sprinkling salt on top of the Focaccia & while cooking as well. I am delighted with all of these storage pieces for their practicality & beauty. My friend & her husband loved their gift which they thought was quite unique as they had never seen anything like it. I highly recommend this & all Emile Henry products (I have several I have acquired over the years & they have all held up beautifully) & the excellent service I received from Atlanta Grill Company.
